GREENWICH MOTOR & MOTOR CYCLE CLUB Ltd 2008
My name is John Carnell and I have been a member of the Greenwich M & MCC Ltd for
over 30 years.
I originally joined through a very good friend of mine who was passengering
on a Triumph outfit, and he asked me if I would like to display my BSA DBD 34 at
one of the motorcycle shows that the Club held.
Over the years I have owned a multitude
of motorcycles, including a Thruxton Velocette, Thruxton Triumph, Triumph Trident
and at present I own a BMW R100RS and a Hinckley Bonneville
I had an interest in Road
Racing and duly joined the Club to become a helper on the Gilberts of Catford recovery
truck working at Brands Hatch. I then progressed to operating Streamline Motorcycles recovery
truck and spent many happy days at Brands recovering riders and bikes from clubmen
up to the likes of Sheene, Hailwood and Agostini etc.
I have also marshalled at M/X
meetings run by the club and observed in Trials.
Eventually I was asked if I would
like to join the Committee, which I gratefully accepted. Over the years I have served
in a number of capacities on the Committee, including Assistant Race Secretary, Race
Secretary, Social Secretary and at present I am Deputy Chairman, Editor of the Clubs
