GREENWICH MOTOR & MOTOR CYCLE CLUB Ltd 2008
My name is Gordon Lane, but I am better known as Monty, and I was born in 1928 in
London. I first joined the Greenwich Club in 1950 and was elected onto the committee
in 1951 as a General Committee Member. One of the first things I did was to create
the club magazine which I edited and produced for nine years. Other posts I have
held include Assistant Social Secretary and Assistant Club Secretary. Upon the retirement
of the Secretary Ron Hill, who had held the position for a great many years, I became
Club Secretary. Also nowadays I represent the Club at the S.E.Centre A.C.U. and
the Moto Cross Combine. I have been a Centre Steward and Clerk of the Course for
Moto Cross for 15 years.
My first motorcycle was an Ariel 350cc Red Hunter which
was traded in for a 500cc single A.J.S. and this was followed by a Matchless 500cc
G9 which later had a sidecar added. My last bike was a Vincent Black Knight to which
a Jet Hundred fibre glass sidecar was fitted. Sadly, this was traded in for my first
car.
My membership to the Greenwich Club has now reached over sixty years, which
God willing will continue for many more.
